Classes at The Southern Needle are designed to teach the beginner knitter, crocheter or small loom weaving. There are also classes available to challenge the more experienced crafter to make something at an intermediate level, or to learn specific techniques or stitches.
Scheduled Saturday shop classes are listed per topic and class. Fees will be listed for that class and may vary according to instructor and skill level.
Classes are $30.00 per hour for one on one instruction.
Drop ins for help that last more than 10 minutes

Beginner classes usually involve 4-5 lessons that include learning to read a yarn label, cast on; knit and purl; yarnover; knit stitches together and binding off. Basic pattern reading is also included in the lessons. Dishcloths are the first form of knitting so that the student gets comfortable creating a simple project that is the foundation for more complex items and patterns.
Crochet lessons are geared in the same manner. Easy first crochet stitches such as single chain; single crochet; double crochet; pattern reading and how to work in the round as well as in a straight line.
Lessons are tracked on a student card and each lesson is noted as to how long the lesson lasted and what was taught during that lesson.
Our social media and calendar is usually done monthly and gives a monthly and seasonal outline of the topics, stitches or special classes that are being planned for the shop.
